I am curious about the pros and cons of flavored cigars. For example, I smoked a cigar several months ago that was dipped in some sort of flavoring. It actually tasted pretty darn good but are there dangers because of this dipping process?
ReplyDeleteWell Mr. Clean, I have a big con of flavored cigars such as acid or any that follow. Everyone has their own taste, however these are not real cigars only flavor infused tobacco. If you like these cigars that is great, I personally cannot stand the smell. I do not mean to be a snob however, there are cigars out there I can turn you onto that will blow your socks off with flavor! Again each person has their own palate, and the palate wants what it wants. Please let me know if there is anything any of us can help you with. To answer your question, no there is nothing harmful in a flavor infused cigar. I hope all is well and I will see you in two weeks.
ReplyDeleteCan you provide me with some cigar brands with good flavor. I would like to purchase a couple. Nothing too expensive though.
ReplyDeleteMr.Clean I saw your post and I don't know about the pros or cons of dipped cigars but I have found it very enjoyable to dip the end of my cigar in cognac. Be careful not to soak it, you may also want to keep a cutter hands if it gets to wet for you.
ReplyDeleteDr. Vent,
ReplyDeleteI just heard that last weekend. Unfortunately, I do not have good cigars or any cognac sitting around. I hope to try that soon.
A small cigar that has a ton of flavor is an Illusione 68. They are about $4.50 or so plus tax and have a very unique and interesting taste. Please note that it is NOT a flavored cigar though. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe illusione 88 is also a nice flavor bomb, along with the La Flor Dominicana line, especially the Litto Gomez Chisels.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've smoked a few cigars I'm not a smoker of anything. Cigars and pipe smoke I don't mind but cigarette smoke makes me gag. I'm more interesed in the humidor side of the the "hobby"? Are there woods to avoid and to use in making them? What else might be needed to make one? I'm guessing a humistat but anything else?

ReplyDeleteConsiglieri / Gar Head,
ReplyDeleteDo know of any websites for the cigars you mentioned in your last comments?
Hey - what does the average humidor look like?
ReplyDeleteWould 8 to 8 in Villa Park have the Illusione 88, La Flor Dominicana line, or the Litto Gomez Chisels?
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with gar head. I only smoke a couple of cigars a year, but I tend to avoid the flavored cigars. With flavored cigars it seems like it mask the original flavor. It is often times over powering. To each his own though.
ReplyDelete8 to 8 will have the La Flor and Litto Gomez line. They used to carry the Illusione line but I haven't seen them there for a while. I don't know the web address, but Silo Cigars has the Illusione 68s in stock I think.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info. Any idea how to wean my 68-year-old father off Dutch Masters cigars for some better ones; he has been smoking them since he was 16.
ReplyDeleteI suspect at this stage, your father has grown quite accustomed to the Dutch Master cigars. I'm sure the low price point is also an attractive feature. So as not to break the bank, you could get him some bundled cigars to start with that may run $50 or so for a bundle of 25. Fuente and LFD actually make some. I would probably try to wean him off of those things with smaller cigars, coronas for example. As discussed, the Illusione 68 is nice as is the LFD L-200 and the La Aurora 1495. A lot of thse can be found for good prices at cigarbid.com.
ReplyDeletecould not agree more consiglieri!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't say what an "average" humidor looks looks but I've seen many that could be compaired to a large jewely box or small silverware chest. I have an antique one in my bedroom that stands 2 foot tall that loosely could be compaired to a night stand.
ReplyDeleteThere are many, many styles of humidors out there ranging from small desktop ones that hold 8-10 cigars to very large cabinets that hold thousands of cigars. To get a sense of what some common ones look like, check out cheaphumidors.com. They have a large variety.
ReplyDeleteMy brother enjoys his cigars, and so I asked him what is it that he likes about lighting up. He said that he finds it relaxing to have a cigar and a drink with friends to unwind. I don't smoke so it's hard for me to understand.
